Tips on Proper Hand Massage

The hands and the arms when given a massage not only help you relax considerably, but also the massage cover a lot of pressure points that are associated with the other parts of the body. A good massage will help in overall relaxation.
You can either massage yourself or get someone else massage you as you relax. There are a few tips on the massaging of hands which must be borne in mind for an effective massage.
Always start from the palm; this is where all the nerves get divided and go into fingers and massaging the hand will help the forearm and the region above the elbow relax.
When you start to work on the palm, do not start from fingers and make your way upwards. Instead, work from the wrists towards the fingertips. When you massage someone else’s hand, get him/her to open the palm completely and stretch the hand a little bit so that the whole arm is stretched out.
It is important for the whole arm to be stretched to help muscles relax, just the way stretching exercises are done before weight training.
Always support the wrist with the palm of the other hand. This will help you massage an even and steady palm. Always check for pain when you start the massage.
The moment a bout of pain is experienced in any part of the hand while you are massaging it, stop immediately and treat that area for a cramp or a wound, whichever has resulted in the pain.
Massaging a sore hand does not always cure it. It might increase the pain in the hands. Whenever you massage, it is advised that the massaging motion should be directed towards the heart.
Even the circular motions should have more force moving towards the heart than against it. This is because massaging the right way will not only get the blood to flow from the massage region to the heart, but also will push more blood towards the heart to make the blood flow better. Do not forget to massage the joints.
