Teething Problems In Infants
Teething in an infant can be more painful than expected. The symptoms and signs are diverse and varied. An ache in the tooth can affect every body part in different ways.
The question is how to know when the child is in a process of teething? The first possibility is that the kid is within an age of three months to a year and is yet to have teeth. Some of the signs related to teething are quite obvious, like drooling, crankiness, wakefulness, biting, crying, tender gums, and chewing.
Some signs are however different like the child’s refusal to or denial of drinking milk. At times mouth rash which is caused by the saliva irritating the delicate infant skin is also a diverse symptom not common with every child.
Let us get an insight of what or how does the teething gum of an infant looks like. Teething gums of babies would ideally be swollen, and even bruised at times, and reddish in color. Chances are that they may have small whitish dots present on them. With time small cavities or openings will be visible in an infant’s gums, which will soon get filled with new teeth.
Some loose stools in the diaper can be noticed as well since the baby at this time will not only be drooling but as well swallowing more of the drool than ever before. Some amount of loose bowel movement can be a possible part of the whole teething process, however, if any amount of stool is noticed to be more than just another extra pooped diaper, or if that is also associated with a fever, and mucous, or at time seven blood present in the stool of the baby, then an immediate medical attention should be given, since these are not normal teething symptoms.
Hence, some signs are normal for teething, and some however, needs to be looked out for. Fever is generally not in anyways associated with the process of teething. Same is the story with diarrhea or presence of blood in the stool.
It is a fact that there can be a chance of low fever from a possible gum infection caused from swollen and bruised gums. However, in case of the baby running a temperature a check with the pediatrician is advised.
