In rare cases, intake of oral retinoids can lead to severe hepatitis, mental depression, liver damage, and benign intracranial hypertension.

Antibiotics and Surgery

Antibiotics like erythromycin, tetracycline, or doxycycline are also recommended by doctors to their patients who have cystic acne.
