Teaching Your Kids The Basics Of Swimming
When it comes to teaching your kid how to swim, you always have the option of putting him in some swimming classes.
But then if you can spare out some time and the swimming pool is easily accessible then why not make your children comfortable with the water and teach him a few basics. It will be a lot of fun, and surely it’s a nice way to strengthen your bond with him or her.
If your kid can coordinate his limb movements, then he’s ready to learn swimming lessons. Now the first thing that you need to teach your kid is to blow bubbles in the water. Choose the shallow area of the pool and sit down with your kid, ask him to take a deep breath and then lower his mouth into the water and let him blow the air out to make bubbles.
When he’s comfortable with that, take it one step further and ask your kid to dip his whole head under the water and then blow out the air. This will teach him how to breathe, from his mouth, when he is in the water.
Next you need to teach your kid how he can move his limbs in the water, and again you need to do this at the shallow end of the pool. Let your kid sit comfortably, with legs stretched out straight. And then make him to bend his knees and kick the water.
For the arm movements, teach your kid to stretch his arms straight in front of him, with the palms facing outwards. Keeping his arms straight at the elbow, ask him to bring his arms to his sides so that they are in line with his chest.
Floating on the back is the next thing which you can teach him. Initially you will need to support his body with your arms while letting your shoulder work as a pillow for his head. As he gets comfortable in this position, remove your arms while still supporting his head. Now that’s as far as you should go, for the rest of his swimming let the experts at the swimming class work on things.
