Soothe Your Eyes, Keep Them Healthy

Maintaining the health of the eyes is vitally important. There are many ways you should take care of your eyes.

You should splash cold water over your eyes at least three or four times a day. Ensure that they are closed and the water is ice cold. Do it in the morning and after meals.

Ensure that this is done especially before going to bed. Let the water dry out. This will help reduce any irritation in the eyes and the cooling sensation will calm them down.

Also, wash your eyes with normal water thoroughly. Ensure that there are no remnants of makeup or anything that might irritate your eyes. Then close your eyes and cover it with your palm.

Keep it that way for five minutes at least. This is important because it prevents any light from penetrating the eyes. You would have noticed that even with closed eyes you are able to figure out when the light was switched on in the room and when was it switched off. When you put your palms over the eyes, no light penetrates the eyes and the relaxation of the eye muscles is complete.

Steaming closed eyes is beneficial too. Fill a bowl with boiling salt water. Put the bowl on the ground and kneel in front of it. When it emanates steam, close the eyes and let the steam against your eyes for five minutes. Perspiration will cleanse any dirt out of the eyes and the steaming will help loosen up the muscles in the eye.

Another way to soothe the eyes is by applying clay on them. Moisten clay with cold water and make small lumps out of it. Put these lumps on closed eyes for 10 minutes. It will not only provide coolness to the eyes but also will help strengthen the eye muscles owing to its weight.

Shower from the head. Do not let there be a gush of water, but let water trickle down your head slowly. Carry this on for about two or three minute and then thoroughly wipe your head. This helps you relax your eyes considerably.
