Obagi Blue Peel

Long exposure to the harmful rays of the sun, environmental pollutants, stress and even the lifestyle we lead can result in rapid skin ageing. To reverse the skin ageing process, and make our skin appear youthful, we resort to various anti ageing, skin care techniques; including using chemical peels, going in for dermabrasion and laser resurfacing and skin polishing.

A new chemical peel, which has recently hit the skincare sector, and taken the world by storm with its excellent age reversal properties, is the blue peel. The Blue peel which is also popularly known as the Obagi Blue Peel was invented by the world renowned dermatologist Dr. Zein Obagi.

Touted as an enhanced method of skin resurfacing, the blue peel unlike other chemical peels does not cause post treatment skin problems like inflammation or erythema. The recovery period is also much lesser for an Obagi Blue Peel Treatment. While a person may need up to two weeks to recover from a dermabrasion treatment, the recovery time for blue peel skin treatment is a mere seven days.

A breakthrough in the skin rejuvenation process the Blue Peel or the Obagi Blue Peel is used to treat a variety of skin conditions including acne, skin pigmentation, wrinkles, age spots and fine lines.

The Obagi Blue Peel Treatment should be carried out under the supervision of a dermatologist of a qualified physician. To prepare the peel, the Obagi Blue Peel is mixed with Trichloroacetic acid also know as TCA to form a smooth paste. The strength of the peel depends on the depth to which the peel has to penetrate the skin.

Once the peel is prepared it is applied in an even manner on the face, similar to a face mask. Sensitive areas like the eyes and the lips are completely avoided.  After the peel is applied on the face, it takes anywhere between half an hour to one hour for the procedure to be completed.Initially the patient may experience a slight tingling or burning sensation.

This happens for up to three minutes after the peel is applied. Depending on the skin damage, the dermatologist may have to apply four layers of the Obagi Blue Peel. The Obagi Blue Peel can be applied on the hands, chest, legs, arms and back and costs anywhere between $1500 and $3500.
