Nourish And Feed Your Skin

skin5 Quite like your overall health, your skin health is also dependent upon some essential nutrients such as vitamins, essential oils and fatty acids. Skin is the largest organ of the human body, and to keep it healthy you need to look beyond cosmetic care and think about making the right choices in terms of foods that you consume. For long lasting and better skin health you need to nourish your skin from the inside.

Vitamins and your skin health

Some of the vitamins which are important, from the point of skin health, are vitamin A, vitamin B, vitamin C and vitamin E. While consuming foods rich in these vitamins is one important aspect, the other most important thing is to ensure healthy habits so that these vitamins are not depleted inside your body.

Smoking, eating fried and spicy food, excessive alcohol consumption, using cheap cosmetics and not taking proper rest, are some of the habits which can nullify the effect of these vitamins in the body. As for using cosmetics, you need to avoid all cosmetics which contain harsh chemicals, alcohol or mineral oil.

Essential oils and fatty acids

As we mentioned, apart from vitamins you need to nourish your skin with essential oils and essential fatty acids. The best and most effective fatty acids are those derived from fish and whole grain, because they are highly absorbable, both internally as well as externally. However if you can’t find cosmetics enriched with fatty acids from these sources, products based on flaxseed and primrose oil are also reasonably good.

Antioxidants for skin defense

You will also do good to eat foods rich in antioxidants, as this will help your skin to build its defense mechanism so as to fight the damage caused by sun rays and free radicals. The most important antioxidants for skin health are selenium, beta carotene, vitamin C and vitamin E. If you consume enough amounts of all these antioxidants, you are a lot less likely to see any cellular damage affecting your skin. To double up your skin defense, apart from consuming foods rich in these antioxidants, you should also look for skin care products containing these essential antioxidants.
