Manage The Fats In Your Diet
For any diet program to be successful, you need to understand the importance of eating the right things and in the right quantities. Being on a diet doesn’t mean that you have to forgo eating everything; rather it is all about making healthy choices. And well, you can make healthy choices only when you are well aware of what all nutrients you must check for in a particular food.
The most important nutrient that you need to focus on is fat, and you need to learn about what types of fat you should consume and which ones you should avoid. Fats present in foods are of two types, there are fats which are healthy and needed by our body to function normally, and there are other types of fats which are unhealthy and are best avoided.
In normal food terminology, there are three categories of fats, and knowing which ones are good for you and which ones aren’t will help you in planning your diet better. Also the information that follows will help you buy the right type of groceries, by scanning the food labels to find out whether the fats that they contain are healthy or not.
Trans fat
This fat category is best avoided, because they’re usually loaded with unnecessary chemicals and have a big hand in causing heart problems. In common parlance they are also known as hydrogenated oils, and most of your fried and junk food is rich in this type of fat.
Saturated fats
This is another category which leads to high cholesterol and heart problems and thus you will do good to avoid them, when you are dieting. These are usually found in meats and dairy products.
Polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats
These fats are mostly healthy; still it’s good to have them in moderation. Most of these oils contain essential fatty acids which are needed to lubricate the joints and keep the organs healthy. These are found in nuts, seeds, fish and olive oil.
