Let’s Hit The Floor

December 19, 2008

Deciding on the most suitable type of flooring for your house can be quite intimidating. You ought to match your individual tastes with the usability features of the flooring.

There’s an abundance of flooring options with ceramic and natural stone tiles being the most widely used. Your other options are cork tiles, end to end carpeting and natural wood or laminate flooring. While it is difficult to underscore the strength factor of the flooring, elegance and style are nonetheless equally important. There are lots of things that you need to consider while making your choice about the flooring for your home.

Undoubtedly aesthetics and visual appeal are the leading factors that come into play at the time of flooring selection. Who doesn’t wish to mesmerize his guests with excellent flooring, which looks neat and attractive while giving a pleasant appealed to the whole schema of interiors, the moment they walk into your house.

The color and texture of the flooring is another aspect related to visual appeal, and the basic idea should be to look for flooring that can blend well with your walls, drapes and furniture. With small kids around, slippery and light colored floorings aren’t quite practical, or else either mopping will keep you busy or you will be frequenting the hospital because of accidents due to slipping. As for color, if you are living in a cold place, darker flooring will help in creating warmth and giving your house a cozy feel.

Since most flooring options are expensive, durability is another key factor to be considered when deciding about the flooring. For every part of your house you need to determine what the likely wear and tear is, for instance wooden floors in the kitchen may not be quite suitable because it may get spoiled with water, and having carpeting in the entrance lobby can be quite messy during the rainy season.

So you need to understand what is the kind of rough usage that the flooring of any particular area has to undergo and decide on the flooring accordingly. An equally important factor is how much of an effort you are willing to make to maintain the flooring. If you’re over busy with your professional life, you would definitely prefer ceramic tiles for they are the easiest to clean and maintain.

Lastly, stop competing with your neighbors or getting swayed by picture perfect interiors in the magazines and think about how practical, appealing and affordable is the flooring option you plan to use in your house.
