Artificial Toenails

Artificial Toenails One of various tools used for enhancing the beauty of toenails is artificial toenail. Artificial toenails are quite in vogue these days and youngsters are really crazy about it. Apart from making toenails beautiful, these toenails are also worn for hiding different types of unsightly problems.

For example, many people have split or blackened toenails that make them look ugly. Similarly, chipped toenails are also very common. All these conditions can be hided by using artificial toenails. These toenails are generally made of acrylic plastic and are attached to the natural toenails by using semi-permanent glue. These toenails can also be attached by using temporary adhesive stickers. Artificial toenails can easily be used for several days. They are also reusable.

Tips for Artificial Toenails

While using artificial toenails, a person must be careful about certain aspects, especially when these toenails are applied to nails at home. First of all, care should be taken that artificial toenails of correct sizes have been purchased. Length of each toe should be measured for doing this. For attaching artificial toenails, glue should be applied to these carefully and then, these are placed over natural toenails. This task must not be done in a hurry.

It must be ensured that toenail has been placed correctly and tightly against the cuticle. If size of artificial toenail has not matched with size of natural nail, it should be filed. However, filing of artificial toenail should be done after glue has dried up completely. Otherwise, artificial toenail may get moved from its place. Nail paint or enamel should be applied on dried toenail only.

There must be a gap of 30 seconds between applying of glue on artificial toenail and attaching of glued toenail to natural nails. Normally, artificial toenails are attached with the glue become tacky. This allows toenail to remain stuck to the natural nail for longer duration. For attaching artificial toenail to natural toenail, glued artificial nail is first held at an angle of 45 degrees with respect to natural nails and then, it is glided slowly. For ensuring that no air has trapped between the two surfaces, artificial toenail must be pressed tightly and held for five to ten seconds.

For smoothing the surfaces of artificial and natural toenails, emery board can be used. If there is any thickening on the natural toenails, it must be removed through aggressive filing. For this purpose, courser side of the emery board should be used. After prepping the toenails, fixing of artificial nails should be started with largest nail. Pressure applied on toenails should be even.

If artificial toenail is not applied properly, it must be removed. Surfaces of both the toenails should be cleaned and re-filed before trying again. Use of excessive glue should be avoided. On small toenails, one drop of adhesive is generally applied while on big toenails, two drops of adhesive are applied. Many experts feel that before applying artificial toenails to natural ones, a mini-pedicure should be done. This provides better results.

Mini pedicure includes removing of nail polish from natural toenail, filing of nails and cleaning the cuticles. Even a beauty salon can be visited for getting pedicure. If artificial nails are attached to natural nails having coat of nail color, they will not be attached properly and may get detached after few days. On the other hand, cleaning of cuticle provides better look and finish to toenails. If natural toenails have greasy surface, it is necessary that grease is completely removed before attaching toenails.

For this purpose, lemon or lemon juice can be used. It is to be understood that there are certain types of nail polish removers that leave a thin and greasy layer after application. This layer can interfere with application glue and artificial toenail may not get attached perfectly. Also, only strong glue should be purchased for attaching artificial toenail.

It has been observed that people keep on wearing artificial toenails for many days until they get removed themselves. This should not be done. Many pedicure experts feel that these toenails should not be used for more than ten days, as these may lead to fungal infection. In fact, after every seven days, these should be replaced.

Since there are many types of artificial toenails available in market, some confusion may get created while selecting them. One of best ways of doing so is to contact a nail technician, who is able to recommend best options after observing natural toenails closely. In some cases, nail wraps or nail gel may be advised in place of artificial nails. While removing artificial toenails also, some tips should be followed. First of all, artificial toenail must be trimmed as much as possible before removing. This ensures easy removal.

Toenail must be soaked in nail polish remover containing acetone for some time. This makes separation of artificial and natural toenail easy. In market, artificial nail removers are also available, which can be used instead of nail polish remover. After removing the artificial toenail, glue is removed gently from the natural toenail. For removing the residue, generous quantities of nail remover should be used. In no case, artificial toenails should be yanked off, as it can damage the natural nails.

Each pack of artificial nails contains advice, which must be followed. While wearing artificial toenails, selection of shoes must be done carefully. This is because these toenails are generally longer than the natural ones and if shoes worn are tight, it may lead to knocking. Many times, artificial toenails are lifted off due to this. Thus, it is better if open toed sandals or flip-flops are worn. It has been found that women like to use long artificial toenails.

Though it helps in enhancing the beauty, such nails also lead to bacterial and fungal infections around the nail. As a result, toenail becomes itchy. This causes great comfort. For treating the infection, artificial toenail has to be removed. It is also advised that a person should always carry nail adhesive, as artificial toenail can fall off any time. If this happens, it may cause great embarrassment. Nail adhesives are small in size and can be used comfortably anywhere for fixing the problem. But this should not be done hastily, as nail adhesives are generally strong and if not applied carefully, it may lead gluing together of two natural toenails.
