How Toxins And Free Radicals Cause Damage To Your Skin
As obsessed as we are with youth and its charm, beauticians and researchers all around the globe have been digging up ways to find out the best skin care solutions to fight the normal process of aging.
While stopping the aging process isn’t quite possible, knowing how aging takes place, we may be able to take preventive measures so as to regard the process of aging. The two essential components that are responsible for a healthy and well toned skin are collagen and Elastin fibers. Now the problem with these two is that they are repaired at a much slower rate than the rate at which they degenerate.
Factors which speed up the process of aging
Several external factors, such as ultraviolet radiations from the sun, harsh chemicals and exposure to pollutants, lead to the production of free radicals in the skin tissues. These free radicals are small harmful molecules which damage collagen and Elastin fiber, which are the support pillars of our skin structure. And as this support structure of the skin begins falling weak, we see the emergence of fine lines and wrinkles on the skin.
Apart from the things that we’ve already mentioned, which damage your skin, the other things that could be running havoc on your skin are bad sanitary habits, long term serious illness, taking strong medication, unhealthy eating habits, living in extreme temperatures and not drinking enough water.
How toxins play their part
Toxins which are the real culprits for speeding up the aging process are not only produced by exposure of the skin to the sun, harsh chemicals and pollutants, but they may also enter our bodies through the food that we eat and the beverages that we drink. Packed food usually contains additives and preservatives which when ingested turn into toxins. Also caffeinated beverages and alcohol are loaded with toxins.
Once these toxins are in the body, they lead to the process of oxidation and that’s where free radicals are produced. And we’ve already shed light on how free radicals can cause damage to your skin.
So the bottom line is that we need to control the intake of toxins as well as their production in our bodies, if you want to slow down the natural aging process which leads to the formation of wrinkles and fine lines.
