How To Treat Sweaty Female Feet

How To Treat Sweaty Female Feet Women often complain about sweaty feet, which can be very embarrassing in certain situations. This disorder is also called as hyperhidrosis. There are basically two types of hyperhidrosis that result in sweaty female feet. These are primary hyperhidrosis and secondary hyperhidrosis. Former is caused due to emotional stimuli usually.

Exact cause of this type of disorder is still unknown. Secondary hyperhidrosis is caused due to medical conditions like spinal cord injuries, infections, endocrine disorders and malignancies. Treatment of secondary hyperhidrosis depends upon the exact cause. Normally, sweaty feet are reported along with sweaty palms.

These disorders occur due to over-activity of sweat glands located in these regions. During the summer months, discomfort and embarrassment faced by women becomes severe, when they have to wear sandals instead of shoes, which exposes their feet. Smell occurring due to sweaty feet also worsens.

Effective Steps for Treating Sweaty Female Feet

There are some effective steps that can be followed for treating sweaty female feet. By following these steps, a woman can easily prevent embarrassing situations. One of most effective remedies for sweaty female feet is Tea Foot Soak. In this type of treatment, two parts of cool water is first poured into a foot basin. One part of water is then boiled in a medium sized saucepan.

This saucepan is then removed from heat and 5 tea bags are placed in the hot water. These tea bags are allowed to steep for fifteen to twenty minutes. Tea bags are then removed and discarded. This mixture is then poured into foot basin containing cool water. Feet are soaked in this mixture for duration of half an hour and then removed.

Tea Foot Soak treatment should be done once in a day and should be continued for one week, after which, results become noticeable. Sweaty female feet are treated as tannins contained in the tea results in shrinking of sweat glands. As a result, less sweat is produced. Smell coming out due to sweating is also reduced. Some types of topical treatments are also available at drug stores that decrease the activity of sweat glands.

These over-the-counter antiperspirants do not have any side effects generally, as they are of clinical strength. However, if these medications do not work, health care provider may prescribe high strength antiperspirants. These are generally applied before going to bed.Treatment of feet with baking soda is also an effective way of treating sweaty female feet, especially the odor resulting due to sweating.

In this type of treatment, feet are dusted with baking soda once a day, which helps in absorbing the moisture and sweat from the feet. Similarly, foot powder can also be dusted on feet for absorbing the moisture. In place of foot powder, cornstarch can also be used. Some quantity of foot powder or cornstarch can be dusted inside the shoes also. This prevents excessive moisture inside the shoes.

For preventing sweaty female feet, it is also necessary that socks made from cotton only are worn, as these absorb moisture. Cotton socks also allow more air to reach feet. As a result, sweating is reduced and so does the smell associated with it. Socks made from nylon, polyester or other synthetic materials should be avoided. Socks must be changed every day. Women suffering from sweaty feet severely are advised to change their socks twice in a day.

Similarly, wearing of same pair of shoes throughout the week should be avoided. This helps shoes in drying out completely. For preventing sweaty female feet and smell associated with it, maintaining personal hygiene is also necessary. Feet should be washed thoroughly after coming home. For treating the smell, deodorant soap should be used. Before putting on shoes or wearing socks, feet must be dried completely. In severe cases, feet should be washed several times in a day.

While wearing shoes, canvas or leather shoes should be given preference. This is because these shoes allow more air to reach the feet. On the other hand, shoes made of rubber and other synthetic materials may aggravate the condition. If possible, open-toed shoes should be worn. Iontophoresis has also been found effective in treating sweaty female feet. This process is carried out by means of a battery operated device and wool pads containing water. Feet are stimulated electrically, which changes the outer layers of the skin.

As a result, sweat does not reach the surface. Iontophoresis is a moderately painful process and can be carried out at home. However, it should not be done for more than two times in a week. Maximum duration for which this process should be continued is one month. Excessive sweating is prevented by this process for few weeks only.

Once it starts again, this process has to be repeated. Sweaty female feet can be treated through oral medications also. There are some anticholinergics available at drug stores that block the nerve impulses traveling to the sweat glands located in the feet. Nerve impulses traveling to carbonic anhydrase inhibitors are also blocked. As a result, sweating is inhibited. In some cases, health care provider may prescribe antidepressants like amitriptyline, which reduces sweating of feet.

For blocking the nerves that trigger sweat glands located in feet, health care provider may also prescribe botox injections. Results are generally noticed in three to four days. Effect of botox injections remain up to six months, after which, these have to be applied again. In acute cases of sweaty female feet, surgery may also be advised. Surgery is normally done when all other methods of checking sweaty female feet prove futile.

Through surgery, either sweat glands are permanently removed from the feet or nerve signals triggering excessive sweating are interrupted. Surgery is one of expensive ways of treating sweaty female feet. As said, sweaty female feet can occur due to certain medical conditions also.

Thus, it is better if this disorder is properly diagnosed. Accurate diagnosis helps in getting right type of treatment. Diabetes and hyperthyroidism also lead to excessive sweating of feet. For ruling out these medical conditions, a dermatologist may conduct some blood tests. For determining excessive sweating, starch iodine test is generally conducted, in which, color of powder dusted on feet changes.
