How To Treat Shingles

Shingles is an infection that affects the spinal column and the cranial nerves. It can cause inflammation in these regions and can also make the skin itchy. There can be blisters that can be caused because of shingles.

In case of shingles, here are the tips on what to do. The first thing that you must do is to cool the blisters. This can be done by applying wet cloth soaked in ice water till the pain decreases. Normally it is advised that the cloth be applied for at least 20 minutes before removing.



This is the normal time duration in which the pain decreases, however, if one wants to one can increase the duration slightly more. Re apply the cloth incase the pain increases again.

Consult a doctor immediately after the blisters appear or the itching or the pain decreases. The usual anti inflammatory medicines always work and help in easing the pain and the inflammation considerably and certainly faster. Aspirin helps in reducing the pain as well as inflammation. However, it is vital that any anti- inflammatory medicine be taken only after a doctor’s advice.



There is another remedy that calls for soaking one tea spoon of dried lemon balm leaves in 1 cup of boiled water for about 15 to 20 minutes. Apply these leaves in the affected areas for at least 15 minutes.

These leaves have an anti inflammatory property and they also help in preventing the reproduction of the virus and help in the healing of the blisters really fast.

For the same reason, you can also apply ointments containing zinc and selenium as they have the anti oxidant properties which help in the prevention of multiplication of the virus.



There are many home made remedies as well that are very effective in curing shingles. The easiest one, some might say, is drinking 3 to 4 cups of green tea which contributes to reducing the virus and also in making the immune system better. The pain in the blisters can be reduced by applying hydrogen peroxide on them. Use a sterile cotton ball to do it. You can also use apple cider vinegar.
