Many people color their hairs due to different reasons. For example, people with gray hairs may not like their looks and color their hairs for getting desired looks. Similarly, people with black hair color them blonde for getting different looks.
It is generally seen that hairs tend to become dull and lifeless due to regular application of hair colors. This is because hair colors contain different types of chemicals that change the structure of hairs. Coloring of hair requires proper aftercare so that hairs remain shiny and bouncy.
How to Keep Colored Hair Glossy
There are certain steps that can be taken for keeping the colored hairs glossy. Type of lifestyle led by a person affects hairs in a great manner. For having glossy hairs, it is necessary that proper nutrition is taken. Diet must contain proteins, vitamins and other nutrients that are essential for keeping the hairs healthy and glossy.
Many hair experts feel that a person must consume food items rich in omega-3 fatty acids, as these are very necessary for having healthy hairs. Some of food substances that contain omega-3 are fish, eggs and flax seeds. Similarly, dark green vegetables, salmon, whole grains, dairy products, carrots, nuts and beans are some other food substances that help in keeping the colored hairs glossy.
Adequate nutrition must be followed by ample sleep and regular exercises, as these also help in making the hairs strong and lustrous. Since shine and health of hair is affected substantially by use of shampoo and conditioner, a person must be very careful in selecting these. It should be tried to use a shampoo that does not contain Sodium Lauryl Sulfate or SLS.
Similarly, shampoos containing harsh detergents must be avoided, as these leave a residue on hair and make them appear dull. Washing of colored hairs with shampoo must be followed by application of conditioner. This is because conditioner helps in locking the moisture of hairs inside so that it does not look dull. Hair experts generally prescribe deep conditioners or serums for colored hairs.
Apart from above, oil-therapy also proves useful in keeping the colored hairs glossy. Hot oil treatments are very popular and almost all the hair experts recommend this treatment for adding shine to hairs. Olive oil, almond oil and coconut oil are considered as the best for hot oil treatments. For applying, oil is first warmed in microwave. It is the applied to the roots of hairs and left for half an hour. Afterwards, hairs are washed with shampoo and conditioned.
Hot oil treatment should be done once in a week. Swimming in chlorinated pools should be avoided as chlorine acts as a bleaching agent and removes shine from hairs. Similarly, hot tub baths should also be avoided. Hairs should be brushed or combed for few minutes in a day, as it helps in pulling oils from the scalp to the dry ends of hairs.
Last but not the least, a person must try to drink ample quantities of water. This is because water helps in keeping the hairs moisturized. It also removes different types of toxins that provide dull looks to hairs. For keeping skin and hairs moisturized, a person must drink eight to ten glasses of water in a day.
