Having ingrown hairs can be quite annoying and troublesome. These hairs appear as tiny bumps on the skin every time you shave or wax and do not present a very beautiful sight to look at. Ingrown hairs appear when hair growth occurs beneath your skin.
But you needn’t let those ingrown hairs be a huge cause of concern for you, as you can deal with them effectively by following a few simple steps.
Ingrown hairs can be the result of clogged pores on the skin surface. Exfoliation of your skin with a scrub is a best method to prevent the occurrence such hairs. Scrub your skin after washing it with warm water. Warm water helps to open up the skin pores and thus facilitates the easy removal of dirt and grime.
You can use commercially available scrubs suited for your skin or can also make use of homemade scrubs. You can perform exfoliation by adding a pinch of sugar to your usual cleanser. Another very effective homemade scrub can be made by mixing together 1 teaspoon of salt and 2 tablespoons of olive oil.
If you adopt shaving as a method of hair removal, then always shave in the direction of hair growth and not in the opposite direction. You can also treat your freshly shaven areas with creams and lotions containing salicylic acid and witch hazel.
These products will help in the exfoliation and cleansing of skin pores and will also help to prevent skin irritations.
In another method of removing ingrown hairs, you can start off by washing your skin with water followed by patting it dry with a warm towel. This will soften the skin and will also make the removal of hair easy.
Gently pluck the ingrown hairs with the help of sterile tweezers. Apply a small amount of hydrogen peroxide onto the areas from which hair was removed. After the hydrogen peroxide has dried off, moisturize your skin to reduce redness and swelling.
Always perform hair removal after you have had your bath, as water will open up your skin pores and hair can be then effectively removed from the root.
If you wax your hair, then avoid wearing tight fitting clothes for a few days after waxing as the clothes will rub against your freshly waxed skin as and will lead to the formation of ingrown hairs.
