How To Fight Chapstick AddictionMint, spearmint, strawberry, raspberry, vanilla and plum? do these names give you an irresistible desire to reach out for those little cuties and rub them on your dry lips? Perhaps you do not need your lips to be dry to put them on? Yes, we are talking about chapsticks.

Do you buy chapsticks on every occasion? Do you throw in at least one chapstick every time you go to the grocery store? Do you have a chapstick on your toilette kit, one in your makeup kit, in your car, in your purse and where not? Yes, you are definitely suffering from chapstick addiction. If on every occasion you tend to reach out for a chapstick, you might be suffering from chapstick addiction.

So what is chapstick addiction? Most scientists are of the opinion that it is not an addiction at all but merely an urban legend. Usually chapsticks do not contain any chemical that is addictive which might make you an addict to chapsticks. So what makes you reach out for them? Knowing the real cause of chapstick addiction would help you to get rid of this habit.

The real reason is simple but multiple. The skin has an automatic system of cell renewal.  But, unlike your skin of the other parts of your body, it does not have glands that secrete sebum. When you apply chapstick, the skin is moistened and the lips are duped into thinking that it has the moisture. So, it slows down the cell generation. The more it slows down the cell renewal, the more dry your lips feel and the dry they feel, the more frequently you put the chapsticks on.

So, the first step to both fighting chapsticks addiction would be refraining from using the chapstick frequently. Since you have acquired the habit of using it every now and then, trying to stop it altogether would not help at all. So, if you are used to putting on the chapstick every ten minutes, cut it down to once in every half an hour. Sling the frequency would help.

There might be another reason to chapstick addiction which is psychological.  This operates on two levels. Have you seen that some people when they are stressed turn to biting their nails? Chapstick addiction might be just another obsessive compulsive disorder in which when in stress, you tend to repeat a particular action and in your case, it happens to be putting on your chapstick.

Besides, chapsticks make you feel good subconsciously because it gives you the feeling of being beautiful which acts as a booster of your self esteem. When you are in stress, you need a dose of self esteem and this makes you constantly reach out for them.

The solution to this would be, take away the chapsticks you put everywhere. Just keep one in your purse and in your bed room. Every time you reach out for it, remind yourself you must not use it too frequently. Why did we not suggest you to stop it altogether? Lips do need moisturization , especially during the colder season and you do not want to deprive yourself altogether of your favorite beauty product. We are not against using it, we are just against going over the top.
