Other requirements for hair spikes are flat iron and hair wax. Since thick and curly hairs cannot be turned into spikes, these have to be treated first for making soft and straight.
This is done by using chemical relaxers. There are many brands of chemical relaxers available that can be applied on hairs. These are mostly in the form of cream. After applying on hairs, chemical relaxer is left on hairs for specified duration so that texture of hairs change as desired. Since application of chemical relaxers do not provide permanent change in the hair texture, these have to be applied again after six to eight months, depending upon the natural hair texture.
Frequent use of hair relaxer should be avoided as it can damage hairs permanently. If a black man is applying hair relaxer for the first time, he must be very careful regarding application method and the time for which it is left on hairs.
After texture of hairs has been changed, a black man is required to shorten the length of hairs so that spikes can be made easily.
Since long hairs fall on sides of head easily, they cannot be transformed into spikes. Clippers and scissors are generally used for cutting hairs. While cutting, hairs must be kept very short at the sides while at the top of head, these should be long.
