Replace the cabinetry with the wood obtained from the forests certified by the FSC (Forestry Stewardship Council), it will ensure that the material is hauled from a protected source and has not been procured from felling of pristine forests.
Select plywood which contains no formaldehyde. Formaldehyde is an assumed carcinogen that is known to pollute the air of your home leading you to slow poisoning.
While finishing, re-painting wood or using adhesives; select products that contain less harsh drying chemicals, called VOC or volatile organic compounds. VOCs contain chemicals that have a very harmful effect on the environment.
Wastage of water has been a major environmental concern. For saving water, install a dual flushing toilet and a low-flow head of shower. dual flushing toilets save up to 40% of the water usage.
Using fluorescent CFL bulbs for the lighting will also save you a lot of money in addition to energy- as these CFL bulbs last thrice longer than ordinary bulbs.
Install countertops that are made from recycled materials. There are a lot of products available in the markets that are made from recycled glass and tiles. Using these products helps reduce the pressure on the environment by recycling the older products.
Artificial slates could really turn the looks of your bathroom. There are some porcelain varieties available in the markets which are made from 40 percent pre-consumer recycled material.
