Foot Blisters: Treatment Methods and Prevention
There can be many reasons for foot blisters; you can have them because of excessive walking or they can be there because of the tight shoes that you have just purchased.
Whatever the reason, they are painful and cause a great degree of inconvenience. Here are some tips on how to deal with these blisters and also avoid them completely:
If you feel that there is a sense of irritation in your feet, then immediately remove your shoes and socks to examine and identify the area where this is happening and if there is a blister avoid wearing your shoes and socks till you treat it. Wearing them again will cause the blister to enhance with constant extra friction.
If you can, try and drain the fluids from the blister. Use a sterilized syringe needle and prick the blister in two places and gently squeeze it to let the fluids out. Clean the area using an antiseptic lotion and then apply an antibacterial cream to the area. You can pat down the area using soft cotton pads.
Cover it with moleskin and then wear your shoes, if you have to. Change the socks as soon as possible. Once you have time, clean the area again and re-dress it. Try avoiding footwear as much as you can till it heals.
Blisters are caused due to excessive pressure caused on the skin. While walking or running, the skin gets pulled constantly due to friction; the end result of which is a blister.
If you are someone who has to stand around or walk a lot, and you weigh more than you should, try to lose that extra mass. Not only you will look better, but also the chances of blisters will be quite less.
If you have to do a lot of running around at work, avoid high heels. They put pressure on the soles and cause blisters easily. Choose the shoes correctly;
if it looks good but rubs against the foot when you walk, do not buy it. You will end up either with a sprained leg or a large blister. Identify the sensitive parts and apply foot powder before you wear shoes.
