Factors That Can Lead To Cesarean
The number of cesareans childbirths has been on the rise all around the world, and particularly so, in the United States, where nearly one out of every three childbirths is a cesarean.
With the cesarean figures increasing alarmingly, several researchers and studies have been conducted, and there are three prominent factors which have been ascribed to the high rate of cesareans.
Before we get on to the three main causes of cesarean childbirth, there’s a little thing I would like to mention, which was elucidated in one such reports, that in nearly 50 percent of the cases cesarean method of childbirth is not really required and is used by many medical practitioners as a strategy to earn more money.
Artificial labor
It has been proved, time and again, that the medication administered for inducing artificial labor often leads to increased odds of a cesarean; however there still are a lot of women who settle for artificial labor. Since the body of the mother may not be completely ready for labor, in most cases the cervix may not dilate, while the injected hormones will start producing contractions. And eventually the doctor may have to decide for a cesarean.
Painkillers
Administering painkillers during early labor increases the chances of a cesarean childbirth, especially epidural analgesics. Performing an epidural before labor is believed to alter the natural labor pattern and thus cesarean may be the only option left.
Vitamin deficiency
A deficient diet during pregnancy may also be held responsible for the likelihood of a caesarean childbirth. In specific, a diet lacking in vitamin D leads to weakening of the muscles. And when the uterus muscles become weak, they are unable to produce good and forceful contractions, which are needed for a normal child birth, and this necessitates a cesarean delivery. In one of the studies, it does come out that having a vitamin D deficient diet can increase your chances of a caesarean section, by nearly four times.
