Essential Foods For Healthy Hair

Incorporating the right kinds of food into your diet will ensure that you have a full head of healthy and lustrous hair. Many hair problems including excessive hair fall, dry hair, premature graying of hair are all caused by a poor diet.

If you have spent huge amounts of money on hair care products and have still not witnessed any changes in your hair problems, it is time to introspect and evaluate your diet. Gorging on junk food, fatty food and other unhealthy fare can have extremely detrimental effects on your hair.

One of the best foods for healthy hair are nuts. Brazil nuts, pecans, almonds and cashew nuts are rich sources of zinc. The zinc mineral is vital to prevent hair fall. Omega-3 fatty acids are essential for maintaining the healthy condition of the hair. Walnuts are rich sources of omega 3 fatty acids along with alpha-linoleic acid.

Incorporate fatty fish like tuna and salmon into your daily diet. Salmon contains essential vitamin B-12 along with iron and Omega-3 fatty acids. To prevent dry scalp and dull hair good amounts of food containing Omega-3 fatty acids should be included in the diet. Oysters contain vast caches of zinc, which boost the hair growth.

Eggs are good for overall health and especially for hair. Eggs are rich sources of protein and also contain vitamin B-12 and biotin which are important hair nutrients. For high quality proteins include lean meat like chicken and turkey. Protein deficiency can lead to loss of hair color, brittle and weak hair.

Dark green leafy vegetables like Swiss chard, broccoli, spinach and kale are loaded with vitamins C and A. These vitamins stimulate the secretion of sebum, the oily substance responsible for conditioning the hair. Calcium and iron are also present in good quantities in these vegetables.

For lustrous hair include lentils and legumes. These low cost food items are rich in proteins, zinc, biotin and iron all of which contribute to healthy and shiny hair. Snack on whole grain food items as these contain adequate doses of iron, zinc and B-vitamins.

Vitamin A is needed for healthy, shiny and well conditioned hair. What better food than Vitamin A rich carrot to achieve this goal. Carrots either eaten raw as salads or included in cooked foods like stews should be eaten on a daily basis.
