Electrolysis or Laser Hair Removal: What’s Best for You?

Removal of unwanted facial or body hair is the routine hassle every woman has to go through every few days, to keep up looking beautiful.

But thanks to modern beauty technology, today there are a number of ways to get rid of face and body hair permanently and enjoy a smooth and hair-free sexy skin for life.

Laser hair removal and electrolysis are the two most talked about options for permanent hair removal. But which one should you opt for? Here is a comparative analysis to help you decide:

The procedure:

LASER- here pulsed light from a laser, targets a large number of hair follicles at a time and burns them from the root.

ELECTROLYSIS- in this a sterile needle is inserted into each hair follicle and a low level electrical current is used to kill the follicle.

The pain:

LASER- laser is not too painful. The sensations have been described as a rubber band snapping against the skin accompanied by tolerable amount of heat.

ELECTROLYSIS- it is more painful than laser as each hair follicle is targeted with a needle. The sensations have been described as a stinging or pricking sensation.

Time taken:

LASER- laser is a quick method since it targets numerous hair follicles at a time. Small areas like eyebrows take around 10-15 minutes whereas larger areas like hands or legs may need around 4-6 sittings.

ELECTROLYSIS- this is a tedious method as only one hair follicle is targeted at a time. Small areas like upper lip or chin may take around half an hour whereas larger areas may need up to 15-30 sittings.

LASER- laser is effective if your hair is dark and your skin is fair as it targets the melanin in the follicle. It is not that effective on other hair colors like blond, grey or white.

ELECTROLYSIS- since it targets one hair follicle at a time, it is a lot more effective for removing hair from small areas like upper lip, chin, eyebrows etc compared to back, hands or legs.

The cost factor:

LASER- laser is a costly method. Each sitting may cost anything from $200-$350.But then, the number of sittings required here are usually very less.

ELECTROLYSIS- compared to laser it is much cheaper, costing around $60 per session. But the number of sittings required for electrolysis is generally more.

Possible side effects:

LASER- though side effects are rare when done by a professional, there are chances of your skin getting pigmented.

ELECTROLYSIS- if it goes wrong, you may end up with skin pitting or scars.

LASER- it guarantees permanent hair reduction. There might be some re-growth.

ELECTROLYSIS- it guarantees permanent hair removal without any re-growth.

Electrolysis is the ONLY method guaranteeing permanent hair removal- but it is more effective for small areas. Laser reduces hair growth of any body part remarkably fast. Finally, the choice is yours: go for the one that best meets your requirements.
