Choose The Right Skin Care Cleanser

February 12, 2009

cleanserSkin cleansing is an important part of skin care, and you really cannot compromise with the quality of the skin cleansers, if you’re serious about your skin health. For most women, buying a skin cleanser is as easy as walking into a cosmetic store and grabbing the first cleanser that you come across. However, there is more to selecting the right cleanser for a healthy and gleaming skin.

Be specific

There are different cleansers available in the market, each targeting a different skin problem, such as cleansers for excessive oil or cleansers for acne control. Subsequently, with the vast array of cleansers and each of them varying in composition, it is important that you go a little selective about the cleanser you buy, for your skin. Putting your hands on to the wrong cleanser could result in several problems.

Reactions and side effects

Some cleansers contain synthetic ingredients or harsh chemicals, which our skin and body may find difficult to accept, and thus these ingredients will become toxins once they enter our system. These toxins further aggravate your skin condition by producing free radicals, which have a very damaging effect on your skin cells structure. Also, at times the ingredients in the cleanser may strip your skin of all the natural oil to such an extent that your skin becomes dry and parched.

Alcohol can be damaging

Most of the cheap skin cleansers, and even some of the makeup and skin care products, contain alcohol. Although alcohol is believed to work as an astringent and it also has antibacterial properties, it dries up the natural skin oil. At times, alcohol may dehydrate your skin to such an extent that you may suffer from Reactive Seborrhea, which is a dry skin related condition. Also, such synthetic ingredients are treated by our system as toxins which usually results in triggering the production of free radicals.

Alcohol is just one such harmful ingredient, and there are scores of other ingredients which can have severely damaging effects on your skin. To be sure that you are buying the right cleanser, do check through the composition mentioned on the packaging, to be sure it doesn’t contain anything that is too harsh for your skin.
