Can A Teenager Get Pregnant Before The Onset of Menstrual Cycle

Whether we want to or not, we have to accept it that today’s teenagers rush in for sex way to early. There are some who are just waiting to attain puberty, and there are a few who just can’t wait even to get into the teens before trying some sort of sexual acts. Sometimes the teenage girls may begin having sex even before their menstrual cycle have regularized.

And sadly, since they do not know much about sex they usually have unprotected sex, which leaves the girls at a risk of getting pregnant. Most girls assume that since their menstrual cycles haven’t started properly, they won’t get pregnant, but that’s where they are absolutely wrong.

Let’s take a look at how a teenager can get pregnant, even if her menstrual cycles haven’t started.

The inside story

The main constituents of the female reproductive system are the ovaries, uterus, cervix, vagina and the fallopian tubes. The ovaries are the ones which produce the egg, which fertilizes with the male sperm to form a fetus, and the fetus develops into a child in the womb. The ovaries are basically a store house containing millions of tiny eggs, and every month they release one egg which comes down into the uterus and waits for a few days for the sperm to came and fertilize it and if it doesn’t receive a sperm it is passed out in the form of menstrual bleeding. The menstrual bleeding actually contains more than the egg alone, it has the soft uterus tissues and the uterus lining on to which it was attached while it was waiting for the sperm.

Now in some teenagers the ovulation, the coming down of the egg into the uterus may happen even when the menstrual cycle is completely missing. And in such cases the teenager can get pregnant, on having unprotected sex, even if she hasn’t experienced her menstrual cycles as yet. The chances of a teenager getting pregnant before the occurrence of menstruation are very few, say about 0.01%, still the odds cannot be completely ruled out.

Theoretically, we have all been made to learn that a girl can get pregnant only after she begins menstruating. Nevertheless, there have been many instances where small girls have gotten pregnant even before reaching teenage or even before attaining puberty.
