Bipolar Disorder –a mental mismatch

Bipolar Disorder is a disease of the human mind. And as a lot of other mental diseases, a lot many factors of this one remains yet to be discovered. The risk factors, and the exact circumstances that cause the disease along with a clear understanding of the treatment procedures to be followed is yet under shadows.This disorder is a severe psychological condition of illness, ideally characterized by extreme mood swings that can go from severe depression to a complete state of mania. If a proper treatment is not started on time the illness can lead to severely risky behaviors, even leading to damaged careers and relationships as well and even can go to the extent of suicidal tendencies.

This disorder although is mainly common in the young adults and older teenagers, at times it as well affects younger children even of six years of age. A portion of the experts mark it to be a rare condition that is over-diagnosed, however some experts disagree to the same.

Women in general feel the pinch of bipolar disorder much more than men with high depression. Women as well fall under the higher risk zone of rapid cycling, leading to more than or at least four episodes of severe mood swings in a single year.

One major problem with Bipolar Disorder is that it has close similarity in symptoms with ADHD. Since, both the symptoms are getting diagnosed quite often in the teens of America, it is becoming difficult to diagnose the proper issue and accordingly continue with the treatment.

Although doctors do not have the complete understanding of the exact causes of the disorder yet they are trying to find out new treatment methodologies and the blame chiefly comes on lifestyle disorders.

Statistics reveal a five and a half million of American adults with Bipolar Disorder. This disorder is equally affecting both women and men with no significance as such to any particular race or socioeconomic class.

Though Bipolar Disorder has not found any particular prevention till date, however an early detection of the disease showing the bipolar warning signals, along with a regular checkup from the doctor can help in monitoring the patient’s medications and mood by helping the illness from getting escalated.
