Benefits of Chamomile for Pregnant Women
Pregnant women crave foods that may have never eaten or detested eating prior to getting pregnant. While a number of doctors may advice women to stay away from certain foods that may harm the fetus or the mother there are a few doctors who do not restrict consumption of any type of foods with the exception of alcohol. There are certain foods that a women benefits from while she is pregnant and thus she is recommended to increase consumption of these foods. One such product is chamomile. The herb is known to have soothing powers and thus it helps to protect the pregnant women as well as the fetus.
Most pregnant women tend to suffer from nausea, diarrhea and an upset stomach. A cup of warm chamomile tea is known to soothe and calm pains in the stomach caused by nausea and diarrhea.
Chamomile can also be used in the form of essential oils. In this case the oil can be blended with almond or olive oil. This blend must be used to massage the feet and back of a pregnant women. She can also use the oil on her temples before sleeping at night if she suffers from restlessness as a result of the nausea.
If a pregnant woman suffers from acute back pain, fatigue or is restless during the initial stages of the pregnancy then the oil must be used in a diffuser or in the form of candles. This offers the woman a certain degree of relief.
Pour a few drops of chamomile oil in bath water and soak in the water to ease and reduce stress and pains. You can pour the oil in a tub of hot water and soak your feet in the water for a few minutes before you retire for the night. This will ease the pain and any swelling that you may have in your feet.
Though chamomile has many benefits to offer pregnant women it is best to take the advice of a certified practitioner before you administer the use of the herb as excessive consumption of the herb is known to have a number of side effects on the fetus.
